Hurricane Debris

Florida has many outstanding features that both highlight its incredible natural resources while also making it prone to marine debris accumulation and at risk for severe environmental impacts.

  • 2nd longest coastline in the U.S.
  • Economy centered around the coastline and marine resources
  • Dynamic ecosystems
  • Numerous listed species
  • Offshore currents: beginning of the Gulf Stream System
  • High hurricane activity

While we conclude removal work from Hurricanes Irma and Michael and the emergency response phase of Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, we continue to work with our federal, state, and local partners on continued marine debris removal needs as well as lessons learned to improve response, recovery, and restoration moving forward.  Please look to the Funding & Partner Info page for information on supplemental hurricane marine debris removal funding opportunities and monitor this page for recent hurricane marine debris updates.
